The scheduled increase in the median wage rate for the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) has been temporarily paused by the Government. Originally slated for February 2024, this pause means that the current rate of NZD$29.66 per hour will remain in effect for AEWV workers, including partners of workers.

It’s essential to note that all other sector agreements and exemptions related to the median wage will also continue under the existing rate. However, from February 2024, a new median wage of NZD$31.61 per hour will be implemented for other visa categories, such as the Skilled Migrant Category and Parent Category, which utilise this metric.

This temporary pause has been initiated to allow for careful consideration of alternatives to the median wage threshold within the AEWV. The Government is committed to removing this threshold, and during this pause, decisions on future median wage settings for AEWV will be thoroughly examined.

We appreciate your understanding and patience as we work towards announcing more information on the upcoming changes in due course. Stay tuned for updates on the evolving landscape of AEWV and related visa categories.
