It was announced today (Wednesday 16th March 2022) that New Zealand’s border will open to vaccinated Australian tourists from 11.59 pm on 12th April, and tourists from visa-waiver countries such as the Germany, Japan, Korea, Singapore, United States, United Kingdom from 11.59 pm on 1st May.
Anyone who already holds a valid visa will be able to travel to New Zealand without isolation from 1st May.
This is a change from an earlier timetable that had Australia and visa waiver countries in one group.
- You will still need to be vaccinated and test negative in a pre-departure test – but you will not be required to isolate upon arrival.
- When you arrive at the New Zealand Airport you will be given a pack of rapid antigen tests (RATs) with instructions. Once you have completed your traveller declaration form you will receive an email from the New Zealand Ministry of Health.
- Simply follow the instructions in the email from the Ministry of Health to report your results – you must take a test when you arrive and then again on day 5 or 6 (there will be a link in the New Zealand Ministry of Health email).
- Please note you must report both RAT results (negative or positive) and should you return a positive result you will need to isolate for 7 days, get a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test through a suitable health professional and don’t forget to let them know you have recently arrived in New Zealand.
