Immigration New Zealand (INZ) have made important updates that could positively impact skilled workers and employers.
Immigration New Zealand has reclassified certain occupations to ensure skilled migrants receive the recognition they deserve. This will help create fairer immigration opportunities and a more dynamic workforce.
To better align with the National Occupation List, Immigration New Zealand now recognises the following occupations as ANZSCO skill level 3:
- Cook (351411)
- Pet Groomer (361113)
- Kennel Hand (361115)
- Nanny (421113)
- Fitness Instructor (452111)
- Scaffolder (821712)
- Slaughterer (831212)

Additionally, four other roles will also be treated as ANZSCO skill level 3 when an employer specifies that they need either three years of work experience or a level 4 qualification as part of the job check.
These roles include:
- Agricultural and Horticultural Mobile Plant Operator (721111)
- Excavator Operator (721214)
- Forklift Driver (721311)
- Mobile Plant Operators Not Elsewhere Classified (721999)
If you work in one of these newly recognised roles, these changes could open new doors for you!
With this updated classification, you may now qualify for Visas that require a skill level 3 designation. This means that your pathway to obtaining Work and Residence Visas could become much smoother, increasing your chances of securing long-term stability in New Zealand. An upgraded skill level could also improve your eligibility for Residence Visas, allowing you to plan a more secure future.
Employers may find it easier to hire you on a temporary Work Visa since your role will now be classified at Level 3, a higher skill level, which will not require English language, less work experience and market rate salaries.
If you’re an employer or a skilled worker affected by these changes, now is the perfect time to explore your Visa options. Consulting with Woburn International can help you navigate these updates and take full advantage of the opportunities ahead.
