Wish You Were Teaching Overseas?

New Zealand’s teacher shortage has now reached crisis levels with more than half of high-school principals say they’re facing staffing shortages. If you’ve been thinking about teaching overseas, New Zealand wants you.

A survey from the Post Primary Teachers’ Association and the Secondary Principals Association has found that more than 85% participants said they had to make compromises in staffing because of teacher shortages.

Making Teaching Overseas a Reality

The new Labour-led Government plans a package of measures before Christmas. Already the Ministry of Education is fast tracking visa applications for pre-approved qualifications for teachers the UK.

The Ministry of Education has also been working with Immigration NZ to access its database of over 5000 UK teachers that have signalled their interest in teaching in New Zealand.

Incentives for UK Teachers

If you wish you were teaching overseas, New Zealand offers the professional challenges of world ranked education system, combined with a lifestyle you won’t find elsewhere.

New Zealand offers an excellent education system. For example, in what the BBC called, the “biggest ever global school rankings”, in 2015 the OECD put New Zealand comfortably in the top 20 nations for the quality of our schools.

Former Education Minister Nikki Kaye announced other measures before the election, including $7000 grants for teachers moving here from overseas and extending a bonus of up to $17,500 for beginning teachers to teach in any Auckland school for at least three years.
